Love or Hate, it's Windows 8

The release of the free consumer preview of Windows 8 has the tech universe abuzz. It's no wonder. The last four years the PC market has had seriously sluggish growth, getting easily outpaced by sleeker gadgets like Apple's dominant smartphone and tablet. Many critics feel that Windows 8 could be the desktop's last stance. With it, Microsoft is challenging the conventional OS wisdom they practically defined. 8 might be reason enough to not count out the PC.

This feature makes your computer portable via USB. The USB plugs into any PC, tablet, or laptop that supports Windows 8 and starts up with your data and setting loaded.

Metro is the main interface for Windows 8. Inspired by smartphones, it is an apps driven UI controlled by mouse or touch.(Touch controlled PCs and tablets features adjustable virtual keyboards, zoom tools and easy system rearranging).

Some metro apps are automatically  but thousands more will be found in the Windows app store. Current preview apps include:
The Social APP:  Lets you control your social networks under one dashboard.
The Cook Book APP: A visual guide to over 200,000 recipes.
XBOX APP: Lets you control your XBOX from Windows 8 and play Xbox Live games.

SkyDrive is Windows own cloud server which, for most people, will be the hub for all folders and files. With a cloud network, your files will be better protected and available anywhere. Each user also gets 25GB month for free.

Finally, every program and app on Windows 8 runs in the language of your choice and features a built-in spellchecker!

While we're still months away from an anticipated from an anticipated October launch, the consumer preview has already generated heaps of praise and excitement for Windows 8. However. the true limits test will  be how well the OS does across mobile platforms like tablets and net-books. With Apple's tablet stranglehold, Microsoft mobile have to really shine if they hope to compete.

The tech wars of 2012 could really be something to remember.
